Only the 2nd day of school and the Landmark Dragons are busier than ever planting and harvesting their gardens. Poinsettias are planted and rulers are in place to track their growth; enabling the students to monitor their height and lateral branching. An important step now is monitoring insect control. Placing yellow sticky cards catches small insects, revealing the species of insects and quantity of infestation.

Much of Landmark’s greenhouse operations are seasonal, a plan they call “Plant it Forward.” Plants sown from late Winter into early Spring from seed or propagated cuttings become vegetable and flowers for a late Spring sale.  In May and June, the Landmark Dragons plant 24th grow boxes fill with strawberries, rhubarb, corn, squashes, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. Some flowers are even planted as stock plants; grown for cuttings for next year's use, saving money for other much needed supplies.

From August through October, the Landmark dragons harvest the grow boxes picking fresh, mostly organic fruits and vegetables. The fruits and vegetables are harvested and used in the Landmark foods class or taken to the Food and Care Coalition in Provo, where they are prepared and served to those who are in need of a good meal. The Landmark peppers seemed to be a crowd favorite with 300 pounds delivered in one week alone last year.  Good work and way to go Landmark dragons! Landmark High School Dragons would like to thank everyone for their support over the years.
